Living panicle hydrangea 'Red Velvet' (Hydrangea paniculata 'LC NO19' PBRAF) is a low-growing variety that grows in 3-4 years to about 100 cm tall and 80 cm wide, with a compact, spherical shape. It blooms from July to the end of September—for up to 100 days per season—and the large, panicle-shaped inflorescences open creamy white, gradually turning pink, and by the end of the season, transforming into a deep, velvety shade of pink with a red undertone, which gives the variety its name. It is fully frost-hardy (down to -30 °C, USDA zones 4-8) and blooms on current year's growth, so spring frosts do not damage the flower buds. This is one of the newest additions to the collection, protected by breeder's rights (cultivar protection UK23/792). Hydrangea 'Red Velvet' belongs to the award-winning Dutch Living Creations® collection—a family of bouquet hydrangeas selected for their long flowering period, stiff, non-clinging stems, and long-lasting garden life.

The panicles grow atop strong, upright stems that support the weight of the inflorescences even after heavy rain—the shrub does not spread out and requires no staking. The inflorescences are composed of sterile flowers, and the color progresses from the base of the panicle to the tip, so for most of the summer, white, pink, and the darkest, mature flowers can be seen simultaneously on a single shrub. The leaves are distinctly dark green, ovate, and coarsely hairy, creating a strong contrast to the rich color of the flowers.
