Living panicle hydrangea 'Red Velvet' (Hydrangea paniculata 'LC NO19' PBRAF) is a small shrub that reaches approximately 100 cm in height and 80 cm in width after a few years, with a compact, spherical shape and exceptionally stiff stems. Large panicles appear in July and adorn the plant until the end of September—a total of about 100 days. They start white, turn pink at the base in August, and darken towards the end of the season to a rich, velvety shade with a red undertone, from which the variety's name is derived. A characteristic stage is when the lower part of the inflorescence is already dark, while the top remains snow-white—this is when the effect of a red-and-white hydrangea is achieved. Dark green, matte leaves further enhance this contrast. This variety is frost-tolerant down to -30°C (USDA zones 4–8) and sets buds on the current year's growth, so it blooms reliably every year, regardless of spring weather.
